FAQs
Where are you located?
Avali is located in Sydney, Australia.
How old do I need to be to get a tattoo?
At Sunloft studio you must be 18 or over to get a tattoo. Your ID may be checked upon arrival.
How much does a tattoo cost?
The studio minimum is now $200. The overall price depends on size, detail and placement. You will be given a rough quote prior to your appointment. Quotes are an estimate and can vary on the day. When booking flash please refer to the price guide for a rough quote.
Are hand-poked tattoos permanent?
Yes! Hand-pokes (otherwise known as stick and pokes) are permanent. The same materials are used for stick and pokes, minus the machine.
Do stick and pokes hurt?
A little. Whilst they are less painful than a machine tattoo the skin is still being injured so there is some pain that comes with that. A lot of people find it quite relaxing and are completely unbothered by the pain. Some even fall asleep! If you are concerned about the pain it is worth considering your placement and doing a pinch test. Spots that do/ don’t hurt to pinch will be the same as spots that hurt more or less to tattoo.
How can I prepare for my appointment?
Prepare the skin! To cut down on single-use plastics we ask you to shave the area prior to your appointment. The skin is an organ and will heal a tattoo better if it is in good condition prior to your booking. Removing fake tan, lightly exfoliating and regularly moisturising the area for a week leading up to your appointment will have your skin in the best condition possible to heal your tattoo. (If you forget to shave that’s okay. We do keep razors on hand). Having a good night's rest, minimal drinking the night before and keeping hydrated will also help with your appointment.
Can I bring a friend or family member to my appointment?
If you require a support person for your appointment please let Avali know and she will try to accommodate them. As the studio is quite small, it can be difficult to fit guests in the space so please do not bring guests without advance notice.
Can I request changes to the design I booked?
You are welcome to request minor changes to the design. Avali will do her best to accommodate your request. Please let her know ahead of time if you want any changes made. If your request requires significant changes or cannot be accommodated, you will be offered a refund for your deposit.
Can I get the design matching with someone special to me?
Absolutely! If the design is once-off, simply email with the contact details of the person you would like to book in with and you can be booked in together. Please ensure you provide both of your availability. A deposit will be required for both of you. If the design is available to be tattooed a few times, simply purchase more of that design.
How do deposits work?
For flash bookings, you will pay a deposit by purchasing the design. Please note, that if you are unable to get a tattoo from me you cannot purchase the design. The cost of a deposit doesn’t accurately account for the time spent on the design. If you purchase multiple designs the deposits will accumulate. Your deposit payment will be recorded and will be deducted from the total cost of your appointment. Generally, simple designs will require a $50 deposit and detailed designs will require an $80 deposit. For information regarding deposits and rescheduling/cancelling please see below.
What happens if I am late for my appointment?
If you are running late please contact your artist to advise of such. If you arrive more than 20 minutes late your appointment will need to be rescheduled and you will be required to pay a $50 booking fee to organise a new appointment. Unlike your deposit, this does not come off the final cost of your booking.
What if I need to reschedule or cancel my appointment?
Please provide as much notice as you can. If you cancel your scheduled appointment unfortunately you cannot have your deposit back. If you have bought a flash and change your mind prior to being booked in, your artist will arrange a refund upon your request. If you need to reschedule, your deposit will be carried through to your next booking, however, if you reschedule within 48 hours of your booking or more than once you will need to pay a $50 booking fee to book a new appointment date. Unlike your deposit, this does not come off the final cost of your booking.
Do you use colour ink as well as black and grey?
Upon request, yes. I quite often do red tattoos and have worked with a range of colours. I try to avoid doing highly detailed designs in colour. Please bear in mind colour tattoos may come at a higher cost as the inks are more expensive and more materials are required. There is also a higher risk of an allergic reaction to coloured ink.
How long will my tattoo take?
This all depends on the placement, size and detail of the tattoo. Hand-poke is slower than machine tattooing (but less painful). Each design is categorised into time lengths ranging from 1 - 3 hours. This is the general length of time required for one tattoo. If you are getting multiple or would like your tattoo done bigger or in a different spot, your appointment will take longer. With this in mind, please bring anything you may like for entertainment, snacks, etc and allow enough time for your appointment. Your appointment will not be rushed so the same is asked in return.
Do you tattoo other people's designs?
No. Unless you have purchased the right for it to be tattooed by the original artist. Avali is happy to tattoo your own (or friend or family members') design but it may need to be reworked to suit a tattoo better.
How should I look after my new tattoo?
You will be given clear instructions and a balm at the end of your appointment so you know how to best heal your new tattoo.
What about touch-ups?
If you think your tattoo may need a touch-up, please email Avali a clear photo of your healed tattoo along with your upcoming availability and you will be scheduled in. Most tattoos heal without needing one, however, fine line work is more likely to require a touch-up than other tattoo styles. This is due to the fact that less ink has been deposited into the skin, so if any ink fallout occurs it will be noticeable.
I emailed you and haven’t heard back yet?
Make sure you check your junk folder! Our emails often end up hiding there. Please allow 14 days to receive a response. If you still haven’t heard back at the 2-week mark please send a follow-up and you will receive a response asap. Please note Dm’s are not responded to due to the quantity received.
How do I book a custom tattoo?
Unfortunately for the time being only take on a small number of custom tattoos are being taken on. While Avali finishes her illustration degree, admin time is limited so she has chosen to focus on flash. That said, custom tattoos are booked to fill calendar gaps. So after flash bookings are processed remaining availabilities will be posted along with instructions on how to book in. Keep an eye on Av’s stories for cancellation spots as customs are offered to fill these slots.
